About Meta House

Meta House is a substance use disorder treatment center located in Milwaukee that empowers women to be the best versions of themselves. Meta House ensures that all clients are given the tools they need to build a strong foundation for lifelong health and wellness for both themselves and their children. Treatment at Meta House is offered across three unique programs: inpatient/residential, outpatient, and recovery housing. Our treatment approach is evidence-based, gender-specific, trauma-informed, and family-centered. The comprehensive services offered to women and families in our programs include individual and group therapy, case management, child and family services, vocation and education support, and peer support.

Internship Program Overview

The Internship Program at Meta House offers a wide variety of opportunities for those pursuing degrees in Human and Social Services and fields such as Nonprofit Management, Human Resources, and Communications. Internship placements are designed to fit student interests, meet curriculum objectives and achieve proficiency in core competencies identified by colleges and universities. In order to be eligible for an internship placement at Meta House, applicants must be enrolled in and have the support and approval from an accredited college or university.

Examples of internship experiences offered at Meta House include:

  • Community outreach and stigma reduction

  • Triage and initial screening, prevention and early intervention, crisis assessment and intervention

  • Facilitation/co-facilitation of community stakeholder groups, participation in a multi-disciplinary team

  • Research

  • Program planning and evaluations, development and presentation of trainings

  • Leadership and administration, staff recruitment and retention

  • Responding to licensing audits and/or preparation of state-required reports, policy and procedure development

  • Case management and complex care coordination

  • Collaboration with professionals at other agencies, such as adult and family drug treatment courts and other case management teams

  • Linkage and referral to additional community programs and supports

  • Clinical assessment and diagnosis and individual, family, and group therapy (MSW only)

 

Associate-level internships

  • Shadowing a minimum of one semester

undergraduate-level internships

  • A minimum of two semesters for at least 15 hours per week.

  • Paid internship as a Recovery Specialist in our Residential program.

graduate-level internships

  • A minimum of two semesters, three semesters preferred.

  • Ideal for students in pursuit of their LCSW or ICS.

  • Placement as a substance use disorder therapist intern or position within our child and family department.
