Happy Mother’s Day from Meta House “All I wanted was Mom – but that was something I didn’t get to have.” On her own after being denied a relationship with her own mother, Kesha began searching for the acceptance and connection she deeply needed. She found it in the form of drugs and alcohol. When a physically abusive relationship left her permanently scarred, Kesha summoned the last of her strength to find Meta House. While here, Kesha found an important key to long-term recovery: Kimyatta, her baby girl. Healed and healthy, today Kesha works and has returned to school for medical billing and coding, and her daughter Kimyatta will be graduating from the first grade in June. “I really didn’t think it was possible for people to truly care and push for me. Meta House heard my story and they never gave up on me.” Meta House is dedicated to providing women with the treatment they need to reclaim their lives from the disease of addiction. As Mother’s Day approaches, you are surely thinking of the influential women in your life. Please remember the women and children at Meta House today with a donation. Your generous gift will help rebuild families across Milwaukee. Click here to donate. Thank you! You are receiving this e-mail because of your past support. Join us & invite others toJune Meta Moments: Thursday, June 17, 2010 Meta Moments are casual events held three to four times a year, intended to give a glimpse of Meta House’s work to those who are unfamiliar with it. After enjoying a free lunch, guests hear from Meta House staff and graduates about the chosen topic. On Thursday June 17th, Meta House will present ‘Surviving Trauma, Healing Addiction.’ Verbal Attacks. Physical Violence. Sexual Assault. Suffering from any one of these experiences as a child can leave emotional scars that linger long after a little girl becomes a woman. They show up in the form of anxiety, depression, nightmares, and/or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Both national and Meta House statistics show that the majority of women who seek substance abuse treatment turn to alcohol and drugs to numb emotional pain. Creating a safe place where women and their children can learn to cope with the symptoms of trauma is one of the things that make treatment at Meta House unique. At Surviving Trauma, Healing Addiction, find out how Meta House is addressing the link between trauma and addiction and hear from a woman who survived her distressful journey about how she is using new tools to cope with her past. Thank you to all participants and sponsors of A Day for Meta House – it was a great success! On April 16th, at Pier Wisconsin/Discovery World, there were about 310 people at the breakfast and 360 at the lunch. We also enjoyed a fun Tweetup that evening at iPic Entertainment. Our Tweetathon went very well, with over 1,100 tweets and retweets about #Day4MH. Manpower sponsored $1 per tweet and gave us the maximum of $1500 to congratulate Meta House on a successful day! Our A Day for Meta House initiatives raised over $60,000 after expenses, financial donations which will benefit our critical programming for women and children in this community. Please visit our Facebook page to see pictures from the day’s events.
