Real change happens at Meta House every day. Be a catalyst for that change.
Who can volunteer?
Meta House encourages men and women from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences to inquire about our volunteer opportunities. Of course, applications are carefully reviewed and include background checks for the safety and security of our clients and their families. Mostly, we are looking for positive individuals who agree with our mission of ending the generational cycle of addiction by healing women and strengthening families. Because of confidentiality issues, all volunteers who have any contact with clients must be at least 14 years of age. Also, if they are a previous client of Meta House, they must have graduated at least 2 years prior to volunteering.
Volunteers who are comfortable working and communicating with those recovering from addiction are essential. It is also critical that volunteers be open to diverse cultures and to building their own multicultural competency skills.
What volunteer opportunities exist?
Meta House needs adults who are willing to help with the variety of services we offer. Opportunities include anything from helping in our literacy lab or careers class, to babysitting the children in our program or planning craft activities for the families. Unfortunately, only Masters level counseling interns and Meta House staff are allowed to facilitate counseling groups, but we do offer other opportunities to get involved directly with our clients and their families. Meta House can work with you to help find the right fit. See current volunteer opportunities.
What kind of training and support is offered to Meta House volunteers?
To ensure the success of volunteers, Meta House offers on-site training for all continuous volunteer opportunities. Training is scheduled after a volunteer application has been checked and accepted, and will be conducted by the supervising staff member of that volunteer. If at any time a volunteer has questions or concerns, they can always feel comfortable contacting their supervising staff member or our Volunteer Coordinator.
What sort of time commitment do volunteers make?
Volunteer opportunities range from one-time commitments to ongoing specific support. It really depends on your availability and how you want to help. Look over our current volunteer opportunities to determine the option that best suits your schedule.
