The Changing Lives, Changing Milwaukee Gala on November 21, 2009 was a great success. Over 200 people gathered to celebrate Francine Feinberg's 25 years of dedicated service to Meta House and the work of the agency. Read the Journal Sentinel article here, which was also featured here and here.
Advocates working in DC for fair policies This article is about the Rebecca Project and its founder, Malika Saada Saar. Our local Sacred Authority chapter is happy to have them working in Washington DC to reform welfare and criminal justice policies affecting women and children. "It is wrongheaded to incarcerate women whose troubled circumstances have led to drug addiction or prostitution, especially those who have been sexually abused, instead of steering them to treatment options."

Help Portrait
Clients participated in a wonderful event on December 12th, 2009 called Help Portrait. Local photographers participated in an international phenomenon, taking and giving free portraits of those who otherwise couldn’t afford them. Some women went alone and others got a family portrait; a first for many! Here is Meta House’s Residential Program Assistant, Lindsay Weber, promoting the event on WISN 12.
Grant to Help Keep Children and Mothers Together Safely
The Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare (BMCW) has been awarded $463,961 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support a family-centered treatment program for mothers with substance abuse problems while protecting children. Through the Families Come First program, BMCW will collaborate with Meta House to strengthen these families as the mothers overcome addiction.

At a town hall meeting on drunken driving legislation, Meta House’s Executive Director Dr. Francine Feinberg appeared on Channel 12 News. She added that as a treatment provider, “I am not at all opposed to consequences for drunk driving, but I am concerned that there is very limited treatment availability.”
